ANNOUNCEMENTS

Hello to all scouts and families from Troop 278.

Old Business

New Scouts:  We would like to welcome the following boys who joined the troop at the bridging ceremony on April 20th -  Cory Bernard, Chris Bower, Jamie Farber, Ian Maliszewskyj, Kevin McCort, Jason Renn, and David VomLehn.  Congratulations to Devin MacCrehan who has reached the rank of scout already.

Braddock Heights Celebration:  Thank you to the four scouts and three adults who helped with vehicle parking at this historic celebration. The volunteers were Russell Abney, Zach Abney, Philip Kefauver, Adam Meadors, Charlotte Abney, Debbie Kefauver and Tim Kefauver.

Patrol Assignments:   Joining the Dragon patrol will be David Balog, James Blumenauer, Cam Carter, Bryan Goodyear and Thomas Mann; the Golden Eagles will gain Henry Fairchild, Jonathan Glaze, Drew Kidwell, and Cody Snively; and the Rebels will have David Glaze, Ishmail Hamdi, and Tyler Springer join them.

New Business

Board of Reviews:  Since the end of the year is a busy time in scouting with numerous scouts requesting Board of Reviews, John Tice would like to have parental volunteers to attend the last few Thursday night scout meetings to help complete the Board of Reviews.  Ideally, the Board of Reviews should be comprised of non-scout masters and non-assistant scout masters.  Parents need not be trained for this and all are welcome.  This is a great way to learn what is expected of your scouts.

Spring Court of Honor Picnic:  The spring Court of Honor will be held on Thursday, June 9th at Camp Baker at 6:30 pm with the rain date being June 16th.  The Boy Scout Council “Friends of Scouting” will make their annual appeal for a donation to support scouting. Please RSVP by May 26th to Nancy Kelley at (301) 371-4922 or via e-mail at NTK7@Juno.com  to let her know your scout’s name and how many in the family will be eating and what you would like to bring as a food contribution. The theme for the evening will be “The Great American picnic” and will be color-coordinated in red, white and blue.   Scouts should wear their Class “A” uniform.  Note:  There will be scout t-shirts available to purchase at the Court of Honor.

Minsi Mandatory Parent Meeting:  On June 16th there will be a meeting to discuss the details of Camp Minsi with parents and scouts at Camp Baker at 7:30.  If you can not make this meeting you must call Hank Fairchild

(301-371-8478) and set up a meeting with him.

Camp Baker Clean-up:  All parents and scouts are encouraged to assist with the clean-up of Camp Baker on Thursday, June 23rd from 6:30 p.m. until dark.  Bring shovels, trimmers, and gloves and wear long pants/long sleeves since there is poison ivy around the camp.

Committee Member Training:  This training will be held at Camp Baker on Saturday, June 25th from 9 a.m. until noon.

Hal Noer will be giving the training and all parents are welcome to attend.

Planning Meeting:  There will be a planning meeting at the Ramsey’s home on Sunday, June 26th from 2 – 4 p.m.  This meeting is a follow-up to finalize the planning meeting that was held previously.  All scouts are invited to attend.

Camp Airy:  Due to lack of interest, our troop will not be attending Camp Airy.  However, there are two scouts from our troop who have shown an interest in going to Camp Airy, so we have contacted another troop to see if we can send our boys with them.  If you are interested in providing adult leadership for this camp see Debbie Kefauver.

Cub Scout Day Camp:  Junior scout leaders are needed to help with the summer Cub Scout Day Camp to be held at Kemptown Park.  For more information about details of the camp, e-mail Lynn Comer at CCOMER92@adelphia.net.

Camp Baker Mowing Schedule:  Camp Baker will need to be mowed and trimmed every other Wednesday night during the summer. The more volunteers we have for this job, the less work for all. A family night once a month with eight volunteers was suggested as a possiblity. If you are interested in helping the troop with this job, look for the summer mowing schedule to be published in the near future at www.bobmccutcheon.com.

Summer Camps: We will again be attending three summer camps.

Camp Minsi – 7/17 - 7/23. Jim Mann and Hank Fairchild are the coordinators. Nine Eagle required merit badges are offered at this camp.   Cost of the camp is $200.00.

Seabase – 8/3 – 8/10 Bob McCutcheon and Hoyt Matthai are the coordinators.

Camp Airy – 8/14 – 8/19 There are two boys with interest in attending.  Debbie Kefauver is the point of contact for this camp.
