October 2005

 

Hello to all scouts and families from Troop 278.

 

 

Old Business

 

Junior Leadership Training (JLT):  On September 10, seven scouts participated in the JLT – Russell Abney, Zach Bergeron, Cam Carter, Joe Fairchild, David Glaze, Nathan Tice and George Kowalski.

 

 

New Business

 

Court of Honor:  There will be a Fall Court of Honor on October 6 at Camp Baker at 7:30.  Scouts should arrive by 7:00. All scout families are invited to attend the Court of Honor.

 

Greenbar/Committee meeting:  The next Greenbar meeting will be held on October 13 at 7 p.m. at Camp Baker.  All parents are invited to attend the Committee meeting which will start at 7:15.

 

Fall Camporee:  The Fall Camporee will be held October 21- 23 at Fort Detrick.  The theme for the camp is “In Baden-Powell’s Footsteps” and will concentrate on scout skill basics. This camp is sponsored by Troops 217, 273, 278, and 476.  If you are interested in attending this camp you must register with Mr. Ramsey or sign up through our website at www.Troop278.org by October 7.

 

Scouting for Food:  The bag drop off for “Scouting for Food” is at 9 a.m. on November 5.  Scouts will meet at Camp Baker and drivers will be needed for this event.  The bag pick-up is on November 12 at 9 a.m. The troop pizza party is Friday night November 11. The troop is camping at Baker the entire weekend with Webelos visiting overnight Saturday to Sunday morning. All scouts participating in the pizza party are expected to participate in the bag pick-up and Webelos visitation. Scouting collects 60% of the annual Frederick County Food Bank food donations during this one event!

 

Order of the Arrow:  This year’s Order of the Arrow Ordeal will be held at Camp Snyder, VA from November 19-21.

 

Merit Badge Requirements:  Any scout working on a merit badge and unsure whether they have the most recent requirements for the badge should go to www.meritbadge.com.

 

Christmas Tree Sign-ups:  Coming Soon!! Be sure to visit our website at www.Troop278.org to check for Christmas tree sign-ups. Remember this is a great way to earn those scout bucks.

 

Position Available:  Troop 278 will need a parent to step forward to fill the position of Advancement Chairman. If you are interested in this position and would like to learn more about it see Bob McCutcheon or Phillip Ramsey.

  • The Uniform Lending Closet is bare.  Any scout who has outgrown his unform may donate it to the Lending Closet.  See Mike Turell if you have a donation.
  • If you have a change of insurance coverage or any other changes to your medical form, please send two copies to Lynne Darby.
